Periodontal Disease
Periodontal diseases are bacterial infections that destroy the attachment fibers and supporting bone that hold your teeth in your mouth. Initially the gums separate from the teeth and allow for more bacteria to remain in a periodontal pocket. As the disease progresses, these pockets deepen, more gum tissue and bone are destroyed and the teeth eventually become loose. If periodontal diseases are left untreated, the teeth may be lost or need to be extracted.
